Watering - How To!

I guess this is a bit late, being July and all.
Here's how we do the watering. If anyone has any great tips, join in!

Tomatoes and Tires: Drip System

  • Both lines of drip can run at one time
  • There's a "Y" at the intersection of the hose and the drip systems. This can be left to "both on."
  • If an emitter (dripper end) blows off, they're easy to replace. Sometimes when getting started, they sputter and blow one out. After it's evened out, they stay on. If you can't find it (this happens more often than not), grab one from the irrigation box (it's been on the table near the house). They're red or brown. If you see one not attached to anything else, please put it back in the box. The brown ones work better.
  • There's a timer hooked up to the spigot end of the hose for this system. You can set it on continuous flow, or set it to a time desired and leave it - it'll turn itself off.
Main Garden (Peppers, Beans, Corn, Squash) - Fan Sprinkler
  • We've been doing the fan in two locations to cover the whole garden.
  • This is the same hose indicated for the hand-wand.
  • Don't forget the peas and pumpkins. If they're hard to get, use the hand-watering wand.
Boxes - Zoned Sprinklers
  • The hose for this should not have to be disconnected anymore. It shares a line with a "Y" with the soaker.
  • There's a timer on this system as well, intended for use with the soaker, which takes some time to get the ground wet.
  • Run each zone individually - these need to run by themselves. It doesn't take long to get them a good soaking.
Peas - Soaker Hose
  • These share a dedicated hose with the boxes, joined by a "Y."
  • There is a timer on this. It takes some time to adequately wet the peas.
  • Don't forget the peas behind the community garden.
  • Don't eat them all while they're flat! The ones with tougher pods (stringy) are shuckers and when they get fat, we'll have a great harvest!
New! - Blueberries!
  • They're located on the north fence behind the peas in "perennial land." (11 plants)
  • These aren't set up on any "system" so they need hand watering. They were just planted so they do need some water to get established.
